My screen time this past week was through the roof. I was specifically glued to Instagram watching my friends attend fabulous events & shows for New York Fashion Week. My mind really tricks me into thinking that I have FOMO and to some extent, I think I do.
I LOVE clothes (obviously). If I could attend a fashion week and just go to the shows and the presentations of various collections, that would be my dream.
The other events sort of stress me out for various reasons but mostly because of how exhausting they can be. I find it so odd because I literally speak to people all day everyday for my corporate job. I build relationships with C-Level executives but for some reason, at these events, it feels different. Like you have 20% of the persons attention you’re conversing with, and the other 80% is focused on who is walking past you or who just walked through the door.
I kid you not, I cannot remember a single outfit (mine or anyone else’s) from any of the events have I attended. Irony is in there somewhere.
The social side of NYFW reminds me of the same feeling of unease that I experienced in college while going through sorority recruitment. I’m assuming this is different for those who actually work in the industry, which I do not, but please someone report back.
I was only invited to one thing this NYFW and while it was an amazing intimate dinner… it didn’t make sense with my current work schedule.
As I talk this out, I can confidently say that I did have FOMO this past week but not without the previously mentioned mixed feelings.
